Transition Planning

During the initial Rapid Response meeting with company officials, a transitional action plan is developed and arrangements are made to conduct group orientation sessions for employees targeted for layoff.  The meetings are usually held on site at the company and provide information about locally available transition services designed to move affected employees into new employment as quickly as possible.  The Rapid Response Team is available to bring on site, and in advance of layoffs, a variety of transitional services to assist companies and employees during a layoff.  Services may be customized to the particular needs of the company and are offered at no cost to the company or their employees.

The Rapid Response team may include representatives from:

  • Workforce Development Boards
  • Division of Employment Security
  • Community Colleges
  • Department of Social Services
  • Community based organizations

The Rapid Response menu of services:

  • Survey the needs of the affected workforce to obtain demographics information, identify employment requirements, training issues, and community resources to address the needs of your employees; coordinate resources and on site services to address those needs.

  • Employee information sessions to share information about local programs, products and services available to assist employees in their transition to new employment.

  • Job loss counseling to ensure employees effectively cope with the emotional impact of the layoff and become productive job seekers.

  • Presentation options to help employees organize a plan for the future and expedite their return to gainful employment.

  • Deployment of NCWorks Mobile Unit to company sites in rural and remote areas, as an extension of the Worforce Center, to ensure employees have access to resources and services available.

  • Assistance with filing the petition for Trade Adjustment Assistance to provide eligible employees with enhanced benefits and services.

  • Classes in Adult Basic Education and English as a Second Language on site at the company, community college and other locations within the community, to enhance the employability of the affected workforce.

  • Other customized training and workshops which provide employees with skills to prepare them for new employment.

  • Financial planning workshops and credit readjustment information from non biased certified financial planners to help employees with financial decision making during their transition.

  • Assistance with establishing an on site career resource center, including a reference library, computers, internet access and other technology to provide a convenient, central location for employee job search activities.

  • Job fair and community resource fair coordination to expose employees to hiring companies and available supportive transitional services.

  • Job seeking skills workshops on transferable skills, career exploration, job applications, resume development, job search techniques and interview skills which educate and prepare employees for a successful job search.

  • Arranging the services of an interpreter and accommodations for persons with disabilities and special needs to provide equal access to job search information and transitional services.
