Early Intervention

Early intervention planning in advance of a company layoff or plant closing will result in multiple benefits to you as an employer.  Early intervention can minimize the impact of job loss on the company, employee, their family and the community as a whole.  The Governor’s Rapid Response Team provides statewide early intervention services to companies and their employees, regardless of the reason for layoff or facility closure.  Early intervention may ensure:

• Higher productivity, employee morale and lower absenteeism during company downsizing, layoffs or closures due to reduced stress.

• Lower unemployment insurance costs, as employees are re-employed more quickly when services are initiated prior to layoff.

• Decreased likelihood of sabotage or work disruptions because employees realize the company is supporting their transition needs.

• Confidentiality of the layoff or closure and media and rumor management among the workforce, and in the community.

• Better public relations for the employer, affirming their intentions of good will toward the employees and the community.

• Good publicity for the company since media coverage of the layoff can highlight the early intervention services a company is providing to its employees during a layoff period.

• Employees are prepared for their job search and begin remedial, short term or curriculum training which will shorten their period of unemployment
